Returning Michigan back to normal will depend on people getting vaccinated against COVID-19. Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s latest plan ties opens things based on vaccination percentages. The goal is to have 70% of people vaccinated.
“Two weeks after 5.7 million Michiganders, or 70%, have received their first shot, we’ll lift the MDHHS gathering and face masks order,” Whitmer said Thursday. “MDHHS will no longer impose broad mitigation measures unless an unanticipated circumstance arises, such as the spread of vaccine resistant variants.”
As it stands, it appears the order on remote work could be lifted soon. More than four million people in Michigan have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine in Michigan. For Friday, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 3,440 additional cases of COVID-19. That brings the state to a pandemic total of more than 840,000 cases. There were 36 additional deaths reported, bringing the state to a total of 17,611. Berrien County reported 44 additional COVID cases for Tuesday, now at a pandemic total of 13,212 with 249 deaths. Van Buren County had 39 additional cases for the day for a total of 6,289 with 100 deaths. Cass County reported 12 new cases for the day for a total of 4,587 with 69 deaths.
