A state grant has been announced for a housing development in Benton Harbor. The Michigan Strategic Fund is awarding $1.5 million to Benton Harbor Flats LCC to renovate a vacant, two-story building in a mixed-use development area of downtown Benton Harbor. When it’s finished, the project at Main and Pipestone is expected to results in 16 market-rate apartments and two office suites. They’re going to do interior renovations along with restoring the original brick facade of the building. State Representative Pauline Wendzel announced the grant this week, saying the project will create 22 jobs and serve as a catalyst for future development in the heart of Benton Harbor.
