Young people throughout Michigan’s sixth congressional district are being invited to take part in the Congressional App Challenge. Congressman Fred Upton tells WSJM News it’s a coding competition for students in middle and high school. His office is calling for students to submit computer programs or apps written in any programming language for any platform.
“This is a good challenge for our high school students just to make sure that they really are into this century, as we know that they are,” Upton said. “It’s just little game, a little tool that they can use to make sure that they’re ready for the future, and it’s probably a good lesson for parents, too.”
Upton says the Congressional App Challenge is also an opportunity to highlight the value of STEM education. Students should submit their app by November 1, and then a panel of judges will pick the winner. That winner will be eligible to have their app featured in a U.S. Capitol exhibit, on the U.S. House of Representatives website, and on the Congressional App Challenge website.
