Sidewalk repairs are getting started this week in downtown South Haven as the city works to address deteriorating and uneven concrete along Phoenix Street.

The South Haven Department of Public Works says contractor South Haven Concrete is resuming work that first began in November, with crews starting removals on the north side of Phoenix Street between Kalamazoo and Center streets. Most of the work focuses on repairing colored, exposed aggregate concrete, primarily in areas outside the main pedestrian walkway.

While construction is ongoing, access to businesses will be maintained, although some parking spaces may be temporarily blocked off for equipment and materials.

The project also includes resetting certain brick pavers to ensure they align properly with the repaired sidewalks.

The city says it aims to complete most of the repairs by Memorial Day weekend, ahead of the busy summer season. Anyone with questions can contact the South Haven Department of Public Works.
