Lake Michigan College is planning a hiring and career exploration open house for this week.
LMC student success coach Kathi Szabo tells us the Red Hawk Future Fair will be a chance for students and the public to come and learn about opportunities available right here in Southwest Michigan.
“It‘s a job fair but it’s also an exploration event so that you can come and talk to employers just to find out what employers are in the area, what they have to offer, and then we also have 13 four-0year transfer schools,” Szabo said.
They’ll be able to discuss degree options, campus information, and application procedures.
Szabo says the event is being held as part of Sustainability Week, so the college will put a special spotlight on those organizations that have made a commitment to that principle, although they won’t be limited to only that. In fact, the Red Hawk Future Fair will feature 35 employers looking to hire.
“Luckily enough, our database is pretty diverse. So we have everything from banks to nonprofits to skilled labor to hospitality. I mean, we just have a great assortment of businesses. So it really gives the students and community members a wide variety of options.”
Szabo says attendees can expect a free-flowing atmosphere where they can move between employer tables to learn about available positions. She does recommend bringing a resume so connections can be more easily made with employers.
The Red Hawks Future Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, on the LMC Benton Harbor Campus in rooms L-310 and L-311. No registration is required.
