The Rotary Club of Lakeshore is bringing back one of its most popular projects with the return of Senior Citizen Night on April 30 at Lakeshore High School.
Rotary Public Image Chair Katie White tells us Senior Citizen Night is a chance for all seniors to take in some free entertainment provided by the Lakeshore High School Choir and get a free ticket to the Rotary’s spaghetti dinner fundraiser the same night.
Senior Citizens Night goes back a long time.
“This is actually the club’s first service project that was taken on back in 1974,” White said. “So, 52 years ago, and we ran it consistently between ’74 and 2020.”
And then COVID broke up the schedule. White says the Rotary has held Senior Citizen Night a few times since 2020, but it’s seeking to make the event a tradition again.
“It is one of those events that for many, many years, seniors looked forward to every single year. And it was always entertaining to see if we said the doors opened at 4 p.m., people would start lining up at 3:30, 2:30, because it was just one of those things that made for a really fun night out. And it was free.”
Senior Citizen Night will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the high school. The spaghetti dinner will run from 4 to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. While those who attend Senior Night will get in for free, it’s $10 for all others. The meal will support Rotary programs.
Free tickets for Senior Citizen Night can be picked up at several local senior centers and retirement communities.
