The Maud Preston Palenske Memorial Library in St. Joseph is planning a used book sale for next month.

Friends of the Library President Nicole Gibby tells us they hold two book sales per year, giving everyone a chance to pick up some new reading material at discounted prices while helping to support the library.

The community gets to donate books to the library,” Gibby said. “In turn, the library is able to resell those books to the community and keep the circle going and the funds are used for various library programming.”

Gibby says you can get some excellent discounts.

“In the past we’ve had paperbacks for fifty cents and we’ve had hard covers for a dollar, and I believe that we may have increased the price last year, but it must be two dollars for a hardcover book, which is an amazing deal,” Gibby said.

Gibby says the library takes donations of books from the community all year to hold the sale.

There is actually a big black cart on wheels in the foyer of the library. So anyone can stop by with book donations and just put them in the cart. The Friends of the Library, we have wonderful volunteers who then sort through those donations to make sure that they are usable.”

The book sale will take place April 16 through April 18 starting at 10:30 a.m. each day. April 18 will also feature a bag sale where shoppers can pick up a tote to carry all their books for just $6.

Gibby invites the entire community to come out for the sale.
