Watervliet rest stop shooting under investigation

A Perry, Michigan man is recovering after being shot at a highway rest stop in Watervliet Township on Monday.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says it’s investigating after the 34-year-old was apparently shot around 7:10 p.m. at the rest area along westbound I-94. A 26-year-old Kalamazoo man is now in custody.

The victim was taken to Corewell Hospital in St. Joseph with non-life-threatening injuries, while the suspect’s name hasn’t been released.

The sheriff’s department says it was assisted at the scene by the Watervliet City Police Department, the Coloma Township Police Department, Michigan State Police, and Medic 1 Ambulance.
