Christmas seems far away right now, but not to a west Michigan tree farm because they will provide a Christmas tree for the White House this year.
Corson’s tree farm in Sydney, northeast of Grand Rapids, won that honor by being named champion of the National Christmas Tree Association this year. Co-owner Jessica Korson says they’re excited.
“Oh, we can’t even hardly stand it,” Korson said. “We’ve competed about six times at the national level before. And we’ve come as close. We were reserve grand champion one year. So, 2015 reserve grand champion gives you the rights to present to the vice president.”
Korson says a White House team will come to their farm to select a tree for the Blue Room in the White House and her family will present it to the First Lady at the White House. She calls this her family’s “Super Bowl.”
