Some renovations are being planned for the Berrien County Administration Building in St. Joseph.
Berrien County Commissioner Jim Curran told colleagues this week the Administration Committee has met with Bacciocchi Construction Services to learn about its options for improving security at the facility. Key county officials, the ones whose offices will be affected, took part.
“We had a good discussion, good participation,” Curran said. “We had four of the electeds that are occupying this building, the Register of Deeds, the Drain Commissioner, the Treasurer, and the County Clerk.”
Curran said there was plenty to discuss, so the meeting went long and was going to resume later.
The goal of the upgrades is to improve public wayfinding, better define areas open to the public and staff-only areas, accommodate visitors with disabilities, improve the entranceways, add seating for people filling out forms, and beef up security.
Commissioners are looking at a few different scenarios and costs for the work. The base level project is estimated at $331,000, while other scenarios that come with more options could run from $550,000 to $790,000.
Curran will report more information back to the board of commissioners after further discussions.
