The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has honored Register of Deeds Laura Freehling after she was named the Register of the Year by the Michigan Association of Registers of Deeds last month.
At their Thursday meeting, the board approved a resolution saluting Freehling for her efforts on behalf of Berrien County. Commissioner Bob Harrison read from it.
“She has continuously worked to improve the services the Register of Deeds Office provides for the citizens of Berrien County, and whereas beyond Berrien County, she has been involved in the state level she has been involved in the state level with the Michigan Association of Register of Deeds,” Harrison read.
Harrison said it’s no surprise the statewide association would pick Freehling as the top register for the year.
Freehling thanked the commission. She’s been Berrien County Register of deeds since 2018, when she was appointed following the death of Lori Jarvis.
