The new Dollar General store on M-139 in Benton Township has already been robbed.

Benton Township Police Chief Greg Abrams told colleagues during the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety’s “Chat with the Chief” program this week the robbery was around 8:45 Thursday morning.

We had a armed robbery at the new Dollar General on M-139,” Abrams said. “One lone black male suspect entered into the business wearing all black, white gloves, stole an undisclosed amount of money using a handgun, and then fled from the scene in an unknown vehicle at this time. It is believed that this suspect is possibly responsible for other Dollar General robberies as well, as he seems to know the operations of the business.”

Abrams asked anyone with information on the suspect to contact the Benton Township Police Department. He said the township should be able to come up with a monetary reward for any information that leads to that person’s capture.

The new Dollar General opened at 1393 M-139 to replace the old Dollar General at 1606 M-139. Its grand opening celebration is set for this Saturday.
