A Bridgman artist is getting ready for an exhibit at Fernwood Botanical Garden in Niles.

Birds, Butterflies and the Beauty That Surrounds Them, featuring the Paintings of Pamela Kirkham, will be on display for the public March 22 through May 31.

Kirkham tells us she’s long been inspired by Fernwood. We asked her to describe her work.

“My work is all about trying to heal your mind and body through art,” Kirkham said. “So, the idea is like with the Fight or Flight series, you can fight against your life struggles and be miserable, or I’d like you to meditate on my paintings and try to just put yourself in a more positive mindset.”

The exhibit at Fernwood will feature nature-based art from three series. Kirkham says she’s looking forward to it.

“I’ve wanted to display there for so long and just finally got with the right curator who felt like my work was a perfect fit. And I’m excited about it.”

Kirkham says she’s been an artist since childhood and graduated from the Kendall College of Art and Design.

Kirkham’s exhibit kicks off with a reception on Sunday, March 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Everyone’s invited to stop by Fernwood to see the art exhibit when it launches.
