Everyone’s being reminded of a survey the Michigan Department of Transportation has launched ahead of a construction project in downtown St. Joseph.
MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells us the work is slated for 2027.
“To rebuild a stretch of M63/the I-94 Business Loop from Central Avenue to Blossomland Bridge and the I-94 Business Loop to the Bicentennial Bridge,” Schirripa said. “So, a couple pieces of trunk line there through St. Joe.”
Schirripa says because the project will be right downtown, MDOT wants to know what the public would like to see. Nothing is set in stone at this point.
“We tend to look at things from a 35,000 foot level in terms of transportation and infrastructure planning, but this isn’t just some freeway through a county. This is Main Street for a lot of people. This matters more than that in terms of behavior for the community.”
MDOT does not have a design or a cost yet for the work, so Schirripa says it really can make a difference if residents weigh in.
The survey launched last month and will be up through February 16. You can find it right here.
