A state lawmaker is on a hunger strike along with some colleagues from other states.
Michigan state Representative Abraham Aiyash and others are calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
“I’m Muslim, so 30 days a year I fast from sunrise to sunset with no food and no water,” Aiyash said. “So, this is not a new phenomenon for me. I have some experience with fasting, but this is the first time that I will be doing a political hunger strike to send a message.”
The hunger strike started Monday.
Activists are also taking part, including actress Cynthia Nixon from Sex and the City.
