The South Haven Area Recreation Authority is now receiving more money from both South Haven Township and the city of South Haven. City Manager Kate Hosier spoke with WSJM News about the request SHARA put in front of the city council last night.

“The request is to increase it from $2 to $4, so basically doubling it to around $16,000 a year from the city of South Haven. A little more comes from South Haven Township because their population is a little higher than ours.”

She says SHARA is run by the city, township, South Haven Public Schools, and the South Haven Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“Those entities have worked together to create this recreation authority which covers a lot of different parcels of land and have also developed projects that can be used recreationally for the public.”

The township already approved the increase in the funding, which Hosier says is taken from property taxes collected for both.
