Congressman Tim Walberg has cut the ribbon on his new office in Niles. Walberg was in town Friday to celebrate the opening of the first congressional office in history to be located in Niles. He told us the location made sense, when considering the Fifth District stretches all the way across Michigan from Lake Erie to Lake Michigan.
“ We thought Niles will be a great location because it’s really Cass and Berrien County, so it meets that need of two of the counties,” Walberg said. “It’s relatively close to Kalamazoo County and St. Joe County as well. Calhoun County may decide that they want to go to Jackson, to our main office, but this will, I think, serve us well to have my regional representative being able to be with the people up close and personal.”
Previously, Walberg just had the one office in Jackson, but with the shape of his district changing so much, a second office was needed. He says people who have needs with the federal government can go there to get the help of his staff, whether it’s with veteran’s issues, tax issues, or passport issues. It was a packed house Friday when the grand opening was held.
