A local restaurant has abruptly closed.
The Sonic Drive-In near the I-94 exit on M-139 in Benton Township has closed permanently. The restaurant opened in 2015, after the demolition of the former Bill Knapp’s and Maxton Motors.
“Our apologies but due to the recent events this location is closed,” reads a sign posted on the drive-thru window, with the word “temporarily” scribbled out. “We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your business and patience.”
Representatives for Stevensville-based Trigo Hospitality could not immediately be reached for comment. Trigo is a franchisee of several restaurants in southwest Michigan, including the Moe’s Southwest Grill in St. Joseph Township.
Trigo initially was the developer behind the $4 million project to bring the building – which also houses Dunkin’ – to Benton Township.
