Michigan State Police are planning an event in Berrien Springs for next month to better get to know the community.

MSP Lieutenant DuWayne Robinson tells us the Basketball Cop/Troopers on Tour event will be on Wednesday, June 24 at Memorial Park. It’ll feature state police troopers playing basketball with the community.

Basically, it’s an opportunity for troopers and local officers to engage with the community with fun events such as basketball, cornhole, dancing, and also there’ll be food available as well,” Robinson said.

Robinson says this is the first time the event’s being held in Southwest Michigan after being introduced to areas like Detroit previously. Troopers from the region and from all over the state will be there.

We tow a trailer to these locations. The trailer has basketballs, rims, those portable rims that we pop up.We have balls and everything that we need.”

Michigan State Police will also have recruiters on site to meet with anyone interested in a career in law enforcement. Robinson says Troopers on Tour will run from 4 to 7 p.m. that day and everyone’s invited.
