James Harden scored a playoff-best 30 points and Donovan Mitchell had 21, helping the Cleveland Cavaliers come back from a nine-point deficit late in regulation and beat the Detroit Pistons 117-113 in overtime to take a 3-2 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series. The Pistons led by 15 points in the first half and 103-94 with two-plus minutes left. The Cavs rallied and pulled into a 103-all tie on Evan Mobley’s free throws with 45.2 seconds left. Cleveland went on a 13-0 run and held Detroit scoreless for five minutes from late in fourth quarter to midway through overtime.

NBA – Pistons blow 9-point lead late in regulation, losing to Cavs in OT
The Detroit Pistons put themselves on the brink of elimination again in the NBA playoffs, blowing a nine-point lead late in regulation of an overtime setback. The Cleveland Cavaliers came back and beat Detroit 117-113 in overtime on Wednesday night to take a 3-2 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series, winning the first road game of the postseason matchup and earning their first win as visitors this postseason. Cade Cunningham had 39 points and nine assists and Detroit’s defense turned 17 turnovers in 27 points — and that still wasn’t enough. Game 6 is Friday night in Cleveland, where the fourth-seeded Cavs will get the first of two chances to advance to face the New York Knicks in the East finals.

Rookie Carson Benge delivered his first big league walk-off hit, a 10th-inning single that atoned for a first-inning misplay and lifted the Mets past the Detroit Tigers 3-2 after New York star Juan Soto left the game with an foot injury. New York trailed 2-0 in the first after Benge dropped Dillon Dingler’s catchable fly ball to right, which fell for a double, and Riley Greene followed with a two-run single off Christian Scott.

Braves 4, Cubs 1 -Yastrzemski drives in tiebreaking run, Dubón and Baldwin homer as Braves beat Cubs 4-1
Mike Yastrzemski drove in the tiebreaking run with a pinch-hit double in the eighth inning, and Mauricio Dubón finished off Chicago with a two-run homer that carried the Atlanta Braves to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs. The Braves extended baseball’s best record to 30-13 and made it two in a row over the Cubs, who have lost a season-high four in a row. Shota Imanaga was the hard-luck loser for Chicago, pitching into the eighth. Drake Baldwin also homered for Atlanta. Robert Suarez earned his fourth win and Raisel Iglesias claimed his eighth save.

White Sox 6, Royals 5 – Kelenic and Montgomery help the White Sox top the Royals 6-5 for their 4th straight win
Jarred Kelenic had two hits and two RBIs, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 6-5 for their fourth straight win. Colson Montgomery homered during a three-hit performance, helping Chicago improve to 15-8 in its last 23 games. Tyler Davis pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for his first major league win. At 21-21, the White Sox reached .500 for the first time since they were 2-2 on March 31, 2025.

MLB – Fan falls into visiting bullpen during Royals-White Sox game
A fan fell into the visiting bullpen at Rate Field in Chicago, causing a delay during Wednesday night’s Royals-White Sox game. The Royals had runners on first and second with none out in the fourth inning when the delay occurred. It looked as if stadium workers used a stretcher to transport the fan out of the bullpen area beyond the wall in right field. The White Sox said the fan was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Brett Kulak scored 3:52 into overtime after Nathan MacKinnon tied it late in regulation and the Colorado Avalanche advanced to the Western Conference final with a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild in Game 5 on Wednesday night. Kulak capped a wild comeback for the Avalanche, who trailed 3-0 midway through the second period. Colorado moves on to the conference final for an eighth time since relocating to Denver in 1995-96. The Avalanche will face the winner of Vegas and Anaheim. The Golden Knights lead that series 3-2. With Minnesota up 3-1, Jack Drury scored with 3:33 remaining to set the stage for MacKinnon’s goal with 1:23 left. In overtime, Martin Necas took the puck, glided behind the net and back out front, where he found an open Kulak.

WNBA – Clark-Bueckers matchup averages 2.49M, 2nd most-watched WNBA espn/abc Game
The matchup between Indiana’s Caitlin Clark and Dallas’ Paige Bueckers on the WNBA’s opening weekend averaged 2.49 million viewers on ABC, making it the league’s second-most watched regular-season game on ABC or ESPN. Dallas’ 107-104 victory was also the 14th most-viewed sports event of the past week, according to Nielsen’s Big Data + Panel. The top 12 sports programs were NBA playoff games. Saturday’s game featured the last four No. 1 picks in the WNBA draft: Aliyah Boston and Clark of the Fever, and Bueckers and Azzi Fudd of the Wings. It was Clark’s first regular-season game since last July.

Clark’s first 3-pointer, in seven attempts, came with 4:51 remaining in the fourth quarter to extend Indiana’s lead to 78-63. Los Angeles went on an 11-3 run, capped by a shot in the lane by Kelsey Plum, to pull within 83-76 with 1:23 left. After an Indiana turnover, Plum missed an open 3-pointer from the corner.
