Suspect identified in Watervliet rest stop shooting; also charged in separate carjacking

Police have identified the suspect in a shooting that occurred on Monday at a rest stop in Watervliet Township.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says the shooting happened shortly after 7 p.m. at the rest area along westbound I-94. A 34-year-old Perry, Michigan man was injured and is recovering.

The suspect, 26-year-old Noah Ditchie of Kalamazoo, was arrested shortly after the incident. Police say he’s charged with assault with intent to murder and felony firearm and is in the Berrien County Jail with bond set at $1 million.

Additionally, police say charges have been filed for Ditchie related to another victim identified in the investigation. A 37-year-old man from Cicero, Illinois was reported to have been the victim of a carjacking and assault.

The incident remains under investigation.
