Lincoln Township has hired its next police chief.

The township board of trustees on Tuesday approved the hiring of David Burrow for the post, effective April 16. That’s the day after current Police Chief Gary Soper retires.

Burrow brings 19 years of law enforcement experience to the job, having most recently served as an administrative sergeant with the Lincoln Township Police Department. Township Manager Kacey Dominguez tells us Burrow has served the department well.

He’s shown great character and relationships with the current police officers,” Dominguez said. “I think he’s very respected in the community and I’m really excited to see what he puts forward.”

As an administrative sergeant, Burrow has overseen patrol officers, acted a K9 handler, and taken part in criminal investigations. Township Supervisor Glenn Youngstedt told us they’re fortunate to have him, noting the department had two finalists that Chief Soper helped prepare.

I want to thank Gary Soper because Gary met with each one of the candidates before they came in to interview and kind of said, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? Here’s what it’s going to involve.’ And so they all came in well prepared,” Youngstedt said.

As chief, Burrow will oversee all police department operations, lead officers and other staff, and work with township trustees and community partners. He says he understands the responsibility and will seek to uphold the department’s foundations.

Township trustees also thanked Chief Soper for his 30 years of service.
