Congressman Tim Walberg says the U.S. strikes currently underway against Iran are something that should have been done a long time ago.

President Trump said on Monday the strikes could continue for four to five weeks. Walberg tells us they’ve been well executed and will help ensure Iran doesn’t acquire nuclear weapons.

I appreciate what the president has done,” Walberg said. “I think he had all authorization to do it as commander in chief in Article 2 of the Constitution. I think it was clear that if we didn’t know it by now that Iran was out to get us — we were their main emphasis as the great Satan and Israel as the little Satan — and their continued cries of ‘Death to America’ we should have taken seriously many years ago.”

Walberg says previous administrations — both Democratic and Republican — have failed to take such action. We wondered if and when Congress will need to get involved, and he said that’s the big question.

I think that’s where the question comes, how long we would allow this? We know that he has, under the War Powers Act and under the Constitution, he has at least 60 days to carry out this strike to defend America and its interests. After that, I think very clearly Congress ought to, in a reasonable way, all things considered, take action.”

Walberg says he doesn’t believe the administration wants a prolonged conflict and that this campaign could be completed within that 60 day window.

Walberg added we’re all grieving for the U.S. military personnel lost in action, but hopefully, their deaths will not have been without significant reason.
