The South Haven Area Water and Sewer Authority is planning a public informational meeting for next month so residents can learn more about their water and sewer rates.
South Haven Public Works Director Dana Burd tells us with a three-year water infrastructure project underway, it seemed like a good time to offer everyone more information.
“We have a lot of work going on,” Burd said. “We have a lot of projects. A lot of our work has been very visible in the community with the new water tower being constructed, and we just wanted to give the public a chance to ask questions about the various costs to connect to the system and understanding what their monthly charges are on their bill.”
Burd says there have been some rate increases in the past few years as the city works to update infrastructure.
“We got $20 million in grants to help fund that. And so we’re still in the middle of that whole effort. So there’s new projects starting at the wastewater treatment plant. And this spring, there’ll be some more water main work happening.”
The city is also planning to demolish a 100-year-old water storage tank once the new water tower under construction is functional.
The informational session for everyone to learn more and ask questions will be on Monday, December 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at South Haven High School’s Integrated Learning Center. Burd says everything will start with a 30-minute presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session.
