Police are investigating after a body was found in Mattanan Friday. The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department has released the following:

“The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the discovery of a deceased individual in the Village of Mattawan. Based on initial findings, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Several weeks ago, our office took a missing person report involving an individual from the Mattawan area. While positive identification is still pending, we believe the individual located may be the same person reported missing. The original report and circumstances at the time did not indicate any suspicious activity or foul play.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office are being assisted by the Michigan State Police and the Mattawan Police Department. We are working together to collect all relevant information and determine the full circumstances surrounding this case.

As additional details become available and can be confirmed, we will provide timely updates to the public. We appreciate the community’s understanding and ask for continued patience and respect for the family during this difficult time.”
