No one is hurt, but a home is a total loss after a fire in the city of St. Joseph on Sunday.
The St. Joseph Department of Public Safety says firefighters were dispatched to the home at 1501 South State Street around 10:30 p.m. on a report of flames visible from outside. The fire department arrived to find public safety officers already on scene and preparing to engage and the two-story home fully engulfed.
As work began to knock down the blaze, it spread to a neighboring home to the south. Thanks to firefighters, damage to the second home was limited to burns on the north side roof and water damage on the first and second floors. However, the first home was a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and public safety says no one was home at the time.
Assisting at the scene were the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, the Benton Township Fire Department, the St. Joseph Township Fire Department, and the Lincoln Township Fire Department.
