The St. Joseph Public Schools Board of Education is looking for a new president.

Barry Conybeare, current board president, announced his decision to step down at Monday night’s board meeting. He’s served in the post for 8 years.

About his service, Conybeare said, “Serving on the Board has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life,” and he’s grateful for the educators, students, board members, and community who make St. Joseph Public Schools such a special place.

“I’m profoundly grateful for the educators, students, board members, and community who make St. Joseph Public Schools such a special place. While I’m stepping away, I will always be an advocate for public education and the incredible potential it holds for every child.”

Among notable moments listed during Conybeare’s tenure – navigating the global pandemic, creating a sustainable strategic planning process, and adopting a four-year strategic plan for academic excellence.

Superintendent Kristen Bawks expressed gratitude for Conybeare’s service saying his vision and dedication have had a positive impact on the district.

District officials say a search for Conybeare’s replacement will be conducted in accordance with district policies. Qualified and interested applicants are invited to submit a notice of their interest, in writing, to the Board Secretary, Amy Marohn. Letters of interest will be accepted until Friday, January 3, 2025, at our district office (2580 S. Cleveland Ave.) or by email at amarohn@sjschools.org.
