A new poll released by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation is giving state lawmakers a better understanding of why young people would be willing to relocate to Michigan.
Michigan Chief Growth Officer Hilary Doe says the poll results found diversity, climate change investments, reproductive rights, and robust transit were among the most important things to young people. She says larger events could also bring more people to the state.
“I think that things like the NFL draft are just incredible opportunities for folks who might not have been exposed to Detroit or to Michigan in a long time to get the chance to see us,” Doe said. “We already have such an incredible offering here in our state, and that’s why we do great on retention in terms of folks who live here really wanting to stay. It’s really just the beginning, those large events, and it will really help move the ball down the court in growing Michigan.”
The findings coincide with the annual Mackinac Policy Conference this week. The poll surveyed more than 6,000 young people from 15 cities in the U.S.
