The Michigan Department of Transportation is estimating repairs to the Bicentennial Bridge in St. Joseph will be complete on April 19.
The drawbridge has remained in the closed position since March 27 due to a failed hydraulic cylinder. That cylinder is needed for the bridge to open.
MDOT says it has the replacement part, but it needs time to install the piece and to test it. In the meantime, masted vessels that need the bridge to open in order to pass underneath cannot pass.
The bridge remains safe for vehicle traffic to drive on.
