Absentee voting this week largely split between parties

There were a couple of firsts for this year’s presidential primary. It was the first primary moved to the fourth Tuesday in February, and it was the first to be held with expanded early voting.

Oakland University Political Science Professor Dave Dulio says Republicans and Democrats were split about 50-50 with absentee voting. Could this mean Republicans are starting to change their voting minds?

I think Republicans are finally coming around to the idea, something that they had been really good at in the past,” Dulio said. “Republicans used to have a major advantage when it came to absentee ballots, and that disappeared during the first eight years of the Trump era. And, and I think that this might indicate they’re more open to it now than they have been.”

Dulio expects Michigan to be front and center in November with many visits between the candidates. He expects both to spend heavily in the state.
