Some work is getting started next week on I-196 in Van Buren County that could affect traffic in Covert Township.

The Michigan Department of Transportation tells us it’s investing $8.3 million to replace the Rogers Creek culverts under the highway. The new box culverts MDOT is installing will increase the waterway opening of Rogers Creek for more natural creek flow and less obstruction.

The work this year will include building median crossovers to maintain traffic during next year’s replacement project.

The construction will result in lane closures and traffic shifts. Work starts Monday and the project is expected to continue through late August 2025.
