Governor Gretchen Whitmer has announced new investments to upgrade Michigan’s infrastructure, communities, and schools. Speaking at the Mackinac Policy Conference this week, she announced the new bipartisan “Growing Michigan Together Council,” which will work to expand jobs and education in the state.
“To have a sustainable infrastructure strategy is a part of the Grow Michigan Council that we’re creating,” Whitmer said. “So, they’re going to study, they’re going to roll up their sleeves. Six months from now, they’re going to come out with a real plan, a strategy for Michigan, and a goal is to take the politics out of this notion. This cannot end in three and a half years. The work will not be done. It’s got to transcend from one administration to the next.”
Also announced was the nation’s first chief growth officer. That’s person’s focus will be on increasing the state’s population. In response to the creation of the governor’s Growing Michigan Together Council, state Senator Aric Nesbitt issued a statement, calling it “an indictment of the governor’s failed leadership that continues to hurt Michiganders and drive people and businesses away from our great state.”
