A 36-year-old man is under arrest after he threatened to bomb Kalamazoo TV station WWMT on Thursday. News anchor Andy Dominianni said on Facebook Live the man went into the station making the threat.
“Our director of engineering, George Markle, is a hero. He quickly locked the man in our lobby and ran around the building to get everyone out. We have dozens of employees in the TV studios here.”
WWMT assistant news director Jon McCrary agrees that Markle was the hero.
“Our security measures paid off. Chief engineer rushed for the door, bolted it, and got it shut.”
After a couple of hours, the man was arrested. Police say his backpack contained a phone charger and wires, but no explosive device. They say the man has a history of mental illness.
