Michigan Works is inviting young people to sign up for its Young Professionals program so they can learn job skills while being paid. Kinexus Marketing Officer Mary Morphey tells us Young Professionals is for those between the age of 14 and 24 and not currently in school.

“The biggest focus of Young Professionals grant dollars to support the youth is work experiences,” Morphey said. “So, we match up an individual with an employer in the community in a high-demand industry, and we help them get that experience and earn money while they’re doing that.”

Morphey says Michigan Works helps enrollees acquire the transportation, housing, food, and work attire they need while they work and learn new skills.

“It’s a win-win. Employers in southwest Michigan are getting work-ready talent. They go through a series of activities and workshops prior to their work experience.”

The Young Professionals program is supported with a $215,000 grant from the state. Morphey says it’s an 18 week course that could lead to long-term employment. The deadline to sign up is April 1 and they can take 100 applicants. You can sign up right here.
