Students will soon be roaming the halls of Benton Harbor High School, although in a socially distanced, safe manner. During Tuesday’s meeting of the Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education, Superintendent Andrae Townsel outlined for parents how the hybrid virtual and in-person schedule with rotating blocks will look. The day will start in person.

“Young people will be in the AM session from 7:50 in the morning until about 10:50,” Townsel said. “In the afternoon, on the virtual block, school will start at about 12 o’clock and end at 2:55. All students will have a blended face to face and virtual model. Fridays will continue to be virtual for staff and students.”

Townsel said any student can opt out of in-person learning and return to virtual learning at any time. He said the district continues to gather input from the community as the return to school date of March 22 approaches. Classrooms will all have hand sanitizer stations, students will be seated at least six feet apart, and traffic in the halls will be directed.
