The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi has donated more than $62,000 to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Beacon Children’s Hospital in South Bend. The Pokagons say the money is from the proceeds of its 2020 Four Winds Invitational. The donation will be used to help fund the purchase of Centrella Smart+ Beds, which will be placed in the unit to improve patient mobility and prevent pressure injuries. Pokagon Tribal Chair Matthew Wesaw says despite COVID-19, the band was still able to hold the ninth annual Four Winds Invitational tournament in September. The Pokagon Band has donated more than $730,000 to Beacon Health System over the last nine years that it’s hosted the tournament.
