An award will be given to the city of South Haven this month for its efforts to accommodate the disabled. The Disability Network of Southwest Michigan’s Kristen Potts told WSJM News this month the organization will give out its annual awards during a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 24. The second annual Inclusion Award goes to South Haven.

“We have been working with the city of South Haven on multiple accessibility projects,” Potts said. “They’ve invited us to come and do a training on ableism. They’re very much embracing this idea of disability as a diversity issue, and making sure that they’re thinking about their employees and their community members.”

Last year’s Inclusion Award went to Whirlpool. Potts says other awards will include the Jim Neubacher Lifetime Achievement Award and the Bob Davis Independent Living Award.
